“This is absolutely not a haunted inn,” I told myself as we walked to our room at the Brandon Inn last month. “Yeah right,” my lizard brain said right back.
When pressed to give my opinion on the topic of ghosts, I fall into that boring camp of disbelievers. I admit to being more open to the idea though when a place is giving off that creaky, not quite level, the bathroom door keeps swinging open vibe at 2:47 in the morning.
Where’er his stages may have been
May sigh to think he yet has found
His warmest welcome at an inn
You can tell this version of the inn is from the same era as the Stanley Hotel (the one that inspired Stephen King to write The Shining). Alas, I have nothing to report except that we slept soundly through the night and found nothing but a warm welcome and a comfortable bed.

We leave Keene on Tuesday morning, but we’ve enjoyed this volunteer gig so much that we’ve agreed to come back next summer. We’ll be back on the road, seeing family and friends, and lots of and lots of new places for the next eight months. Here’s to a bit more discovery!
